Vote for Val

My name is Valerie Burd, and I am running for re-election as Mayor of the United City of Yorkville.

In 2006, when I decided to run for Mayor after spending nine years as an Alderman in Ward 2, I stated that I was doing so because I was concerned about financial and legal problems that I had identified during 2005 and 2006.  I pledged to fix those problems.  I have spent the last four years keeping that promise, cleaning up our bookkeeping practices, making cuts in the budget, and demanding that staff and Aldermen follow Federal, State, and City laws and ordinances.  I also wanted Yorkville government to be open and accessible, providing as much information as possible to not only our residents, but also the Council members so that they can make good decisions.  I've kept that promise.

Before I was elected in April, 2007, I predicted that I would make mistakes and that I would inadvertently make some people angry.  Hindsight is 20/20, I said.  I was right.  I've made some mistakes, but I've learned a lot.  I've worked hard for the residents of Yorkville during one of the worst economic downturns in our lifetime.  I've accomplished a lot over the past four years.  Please check out my record on these pages and see if you agree.  If you do,  I would like to ask you to vote for Valerie Burd for Mayor of Yorkville on April 5, 2011.  I'd like to continue working for the residents of Yorkville.  There's still a lot to do!
